For those who plan to vote to ban same sex marriage. Please view this video. This is heartbreaking and could you imagine if you were in this situation. Plus, you want the government to come in and regulate something?

Why must we focus on the wrong issue, just because it’s emotionally charged? There are two real issues here, neither having anything to do with being gay. First, why is the state involved in marriage at all? For centuries, marriage was the exclusive responsibility of the church. Today there are more churches, and more people who don’t attend, but that doesn’t explain to me why the state needs to be involved. If two people say they’re married, the rest of us should respect that, and the state should stay out of it. Second, why is marriage relevant to so many state programs - taxes, Socialist Insecurity, employee benefits, etc.? If the state didn’t use marriage as an excuse to regulate social behavior through substantial economic penalties and incentives, the issue of gay marriage would never have arisen. So let’s stop letting the politicians use an emotionally charged issue like gay rights to confuse and obfuscate the real issues of far too much government interference in private behavior.
Good video, sad and unfortunate situation. Government should get out of the marriage business all together. It’s a religious sacrament, not a secular, civil institution.
