There was a lot of political things that completely happened over the weekend.

Well, we determined how the States of Michigan and Florida would count in The Democratic Primaries.  Even though the primaries were held in January, we finally determined how this would work.  And, all the hype was one of the most stupidest things in political discourse.   When everything was planned out, everyone wanted to be viewed (The States) in the same lights as Iowa & New Hampshire.  We thought that the primary was going to be finalized by the National Super Tuesday on February 5th and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton would be the nominee.  So much for that.  Here is the press release from the DNC.     Is the primary over?  No.  Hillary Clinton won the Puerto Rico Primary by a decisive margin and there are two primaries tomorrow.   Will it make a difference?  Maybe yes,  because of the “Super-delegates” concept, ( you know Next to the Super duper delegates, etc).   There is another thing that no one has noticed.  No one has caught up on here?  When was the last time besides 2008, did we pay attention to the Puerto Rico Primary or the South Dakota Primary?  Seriously?   The answer is Never.  Or Once in a Generation.   The Democrats are imploring a 50 state strategy and it was important because of all the media hype that she continue.  Besides Ego, that is why Hillary Rodham Clinton chose to  stay in.  But, by Wednesday.   It is over.  To Harold Ickes,  Mrs Clinton’s campaign manager when the decision was made, “GROW UP!”  We need to see what is in the best interest of the country and have a general election debate.  Not a Hillary and Barry show.

The second thing is the book by Former Press Secretary Scott McClellan.  And, yes, the authors of this blog have actually purchased this book.   Originally, the claims were laughable but actually reading the book, there is substance.   Former Senator Bob Dole, a statesman who this blog is always a fan, went to a pissy child-like rant.    However, NO ONE is discussing the merits of the book, only personally attacking.  Now, this blog still thinks that the “I was tricked, I am the victim strategy is just stupid.”    The merits of the book were not even discussed.    Frank Rich goes into detail here.   It was damaging for McClellan to go into detail, but I do not think that It will be hugely influencial on Election 2008.  McCain is Not President Bush.    Iraq has really changed the political discourse.

The third event was that Barack Obama Quit Trinity United Church in Chicago.  This is a non-event that gets turned into an event.    On Hannity’s America last night on Fox News, it was interesting of how Hannity was trying to label Barack Obama as a “radical.”  But, time will tell.  But the story is getting old, and if there is not more of a substantive argument, then by election day, the statement will be ” I quit the church, this is re-hashing of old issues, people are living in the past.”

John McCain is the new Barry Goldwater? May 30, 2008

There is a delusional article from The American Spectator that believes that John McCain is the New Barry Goldwater. This is too far from the truth. McCain assumed Goldwater’s Senate Seat in 1986. The article goes into length about how in 1981, Goldwater was a curmudgeon who had to offer and to the present day, McCain is in that role. Also, it was shown that Goldwater was pro-life.

However, Barry Goldwater was alot more tolerant than John McCain currently is. In 2000, his belief that Pat Robertson and Fawell were “agents of intolerance” was very positive. Barry Goldwater was for Gay Rights, had members of his own family who were gay, and was accepting. One of the best quotes is “You don’t have to be straight to be in the military; you just have to be able to shoot straight.” Goldwater was a libertarian of the west. He had a definite western appeal.

Barry Goldwater supported Sandra Day O’Connor’s nomination to the US Supreme Court without hesitation, while McCain, would probably do what is the best politically. McCain has some great lines though. But Barry Goldwater’s great one liner is a favorite, “Every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the ass.” Couldn’t have said it better!

The main difference between McCain and Goldwater is political postering. When concerned about the Religious Rights Influence, Goldwater stood up. “Do not associate my name with anything you do. You are extremists, and you’ve hurt the Republican party much more than the Democrats have.” However, McCain as illustrated in the campaign, only succumbs.

Today, there is alot of talk that Former Press Secretary Scott McClellan has a tell all book that is to be published soon.  This book apparently goes into great depth about the Bush Administration.  Here is what NPR is saying.   One of President Bush’s counselors is indicating that the book is “total crap.”  That is posted on CNN.  The White House is “puzzled.”

In the book, McClellan has said “I had allowed myself to be deceived into unknowingly passing along a falsehood,” he wrote. “It would ultimately prove fatal to my ability to serve the president effectively.”  Also, he said, “One of the worst disasters in our nation’s history became one of the biggest disasters in Bush’s presidency,” he wrote. “Katrina and the botched federal response to it would largely come to define Bush’s second term.”

Ok.  this was not a posting on Daily Kos.  It is so shocking!!!!!!!!!

Here is this blog’s opinion about this.  The phrase total crap can be used, but not as one of President Bush’s former advisors have indicated.   I think that Scott McClellan publishing this book  is total crap.  Now I have not read the book, but there are parts of it that are the typical sleeze tell all.   It is in the paradigm of what the publishers want.  Follow this:

Bush === Bad

Iraq=== We were lied to because of the Bush Administration

Karl Rove===Evil.

Now, I could have had some left-wing blockers write this.  Now, I am NOT a Bush Fan and think that his administration has been a failure.  But it is awfully Damn convenient that this happens now.   Like sticking a card in the ATM.  Scott McClellan’s press conferences were one of the most arrogant things I have seen.  My question is this, if it was so bad, why didn’t he quit?   Can’t come up with an answer.  Like I said,  it is total crap.

As the most bizarre statements ever, Hillary Clinton made reference to the Assassination of Robert Kennedy in response to a question from a reporter in South Dakota. What is interesting of what it does say. We have forgiven her alot. What she is saying, gets more and more bizarre. Was she saying that there is a possibility of a Assassination attempt if Barack Obama gets the nomination? What is she talking about?

Here is the Youtube and Keith Olbermann’s Opinion:

It is getting weirder and weirder this political season. But she did not apologize for her comments. Not really. The Media has forgiven Hillary Rodham Clinton over and over. Keith has emphasized over and over.

Enjoy.

Different Generation, Different Time, but Archie Bunker can still have some insight.   Here is the common persons insight from 30 years ago.  However, if you connect some of the issues ( Energy, consumption, Democrats, sacrifice) it can still have some relevance today.  Makes an excellent point in a common way.

here is the youtube:

The sad thing about the situation is that we are talking about the same issues than 30 years ago! I just love it, we were told, we got to buy the SUV’s in addition to other cars, because it was fashionable & then were told that we can’t, because the gas prices and their bankrupting effect.   Plus,  I LOVE Archie’s point where we get told that we have to make “sacrifices” because we are always told that!

Oh Lord, it is commencement speech time again and dreadful person Phyllis Schlafly was to be awarded an honorary doctorate on Saturday at Washington University. In response, half of the graduating class turned their backs and many faculty just walked out.

Here is the Youtube:

She is quite frankly, very dreadful. However, as a massive protest, it appears that the Graduating class of 2007 is attacking a “little old lady.”

She did campaign heavily against The Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970’s which seems distant now. Now People are making strides in equality. Some may view her as quite libertarian. America do not believe it!

Some of the things that have been said are from La-La Land or something. Check this out…

Got that. It is just bizarre, and she does have the right to her opinions, but when there is a platform, where she is given substantial influence about American discourse, it causes concern.

However, given the actual situation at Washington University, it is surprising that Mrs Schlafly was granted an honorary doctorate. Her views are outdated and quite frankly, do not represent much of the American discourse. If ordinary people state the comments that are listed above, then they would isolate their friends and family quite quickly. It may be a symbolic measure to grant someone who has had influence ( Which Mrs Schlafly has had), but it is symbolism, not substance.

Well, in today’s Chicago Sun-Times, Robert Novak goes into great detail about an issue that has been commented on: The Farm Bill and Farm Subsidies.  Sometimes, Robert Novak’s columns can be quite confrontational, but today’s article is different.  It sums up quite effectively the reasons why The GOP is in such disarray right now.

California Supreme Court acted wisely in overturning the “Same-Sex Marriage Ban.” All I got to say is “Right on.” It is an act of civil rights.

Here is the case.

Now the religious right says that it is desecrating marriage. I know many couples who “do not respect the sanctity of marriage.” MANY consider their marriage a piece of paper. Marriage is hard work. It is a union of two becoming one. That is it. Some may say that it is completely different. Gag me. Was Ted Haggard thinking of the sanctity of marriage when he was meeting up with his “male escort?” Was Senator Larry Craig when he was caught trying to pick-up someone in a mens room in Minneapolis?  I do not want the governments coming in and saying that these people are better than these group of people.

Wanda Sykes says it best. Here is the video:

Though funny, she makes a point. It is incredible to me that so many people care about what two consenting adults do. If there are two people who love each other, respect each other, cherish each other, are monogamous, then what is wrong with them forming a committed relationship.

I do fear a backlash though. I do fear that some parties will use this as a sounding issue to divide the nation along similar lines as in 2004. President Bush used this as a wedge issue to divide the nation. I remember the twang “Marriage should be defined as between a man and woman.” There are many who believe that. However, in many Same Sex Marriage Bans, there is language that tries to also voids joint bank accounts, domestic partner benefits, leases, wills, etc that are between two people of the same sex as well. I fear that the language will be used again to spread fear and homophobia. The code that many conservatives were using was, “be afraid of the Gays.” This was just so hurtful. Even though I do not like Dick Cheney, he did say something and did something during the 2004 election that gained respect. He said: ”freedom means freedom for everyone” to enter ”into any kind of relationship they want to.” Read the quote again, I will wait……. Ready, This came from Dick Cheney, Dark Vader, hated by Liberals. He said this. And, quite frankly, as a political astute man, he may be onto something.

We can agree to disagree, but as Dick Cheney has said, Freedom means freedom for everyone.

Senator Biden is keeping it real again in this posting calling President Bush’s comments accusing Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats of wanting to appease terrorists “bullshit” and said if the president disagrees so strongly with the idea of talking to Iran then he needs to fire his secretaries of State and Defense.  Why couldn’t they use words like that before other conflicts?

In connection with the last post, and what I saw on my way home, I thought that I would blog on an issue that is effecting families everywhere. The high gas prices are effecting food prices and of course discretionary income. This is ridicious to say the least. There are proposals everywhere, and this posting will go thru each proposal.

We need leadership and actual solutions.  If we can not have our leaders be accountable, then we need to elect others that are.
