Well, in my quest to be fair, Media Matters sent me this email that I thought was interesting. It indicates an ABC Blog, NBC Blog and CBS blog, that McCain is planning to take time off today to honor Dr Martin Luther King in the 40th Anniversity of his Assassination. However, what Media Matters noted was that McCain in 1983, as a Congressman voted against the creation of the holiday and the Governor of Arizona, in 1987, signed an executive order to rescind the holiday. McCain regrets the vote as told in an Meet the Press interview in 1999 but given the extreme sensitivities of this election, it could prove very dramatic. Things have not been reported, but ever since Swift-Boating politics and pulling DUI’s of 30 years ago, mark my words, this will surface.
To be fair, I did read some of the comments on the Media Matters website regarding this post. Some of the comments are horrible, repeat our prejudices and divides.
Dr Martin Luther King was a great man who fought for the civil rights of ALL Americans.
I have also attached the “I have a dream speech” that always makes me cry.
Here is what NPR has to say: Link
In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, & hope for reconciliation, McCain should address this issue head on! This will play negatively. He should address it, apologize for it and move on.
